I draw people in the city, capturing moments that catch my attention.

Sometimes it’s a brief gesture — someone reaching into a bag, pointing or walking past. Sometimes it’s someone sitting or waiting, with time to observe them directly.

All my drawings are made by hand in pen and ink.

Some moments happen too quickly to draw from life. I photograph them so I can return to them later, selecting the moments that interest me and developing them into drawings.

At other times, I draw directly from life, observing people who are sitting, waiting or simply spending time in the city.

I don’t always know exactly what has caught my attention until I start drawing. I look, I see, I capture. The drawing gives me time to explore the person and the moment more fully.
